Apprenticeships - Information for Employer
Apprentices are aged 16 or over and combine working with studying to gain skills and knowledge in a specific job.
For new apprentices with an employment start date from 1 October 2021 to 31 January 2022 you will be able to apply for a payment of £3,000.
You can use the payment for
The payment is different to apprenticeship levy funds, so you can spend it on anything to support your organisation’s costs. For example, on uniforms, your apprentice’s travel or their salary. You do not have to pay it back.
The payment is in addition to the existing £1,000 an employer will already get for taking on an apprentice who is either:
- aged 16 to 18 years old
- under 25care leaver and those with an EHCP
Apprentices can be new or current employees.
You must pay the apprentice at least the minimum wage.
Your apprentice must:
- work with experienced staff
- learn job-specific skills
- get time for training or study during their working week (at least 20% of their normal working hours)

We offer a fully supported recruitment service
Your vacancies will be published on the Find An Apprenticeship website for candidate applications.
We will support you to select a shortlist of candidates who you feel could be a good match for the role, and for your organisation. We can co-ordinate interviews for you, and offer support to help you choose the best person.
You’ll then employ your chosen apprentice under your usual terms and conditions.
