This qualification has been designed to develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment within the health and social care setting.

What you will learn

This short course is perfect for anyone considering a career in the Health care sector or in the Young people’s sector.

The course cover’s from birth to the end of life, and is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to work in the Health Care sector.

You will learn about:

  • Awareness of health and safety in different settings
  • The importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults
  • Communications in health and social care
  • Awareness of person-centred support in health and social care
  • Introduction to mental health

Ideal if

This Level 1 qualification is ideal if you have little or no experience, you will learn about a variety of aspects in Health Care and is a great way to see if this industry is for you.

What next

This qualification will help you to go directly into paid employment and support you to find volunteer placements, it provides a great starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for you and provides an introduction into the sector. You could also go onto complete an apprenticeship or higher level qualification.

Attendance days

every Monday from 09:00 – 15:00 for 6 weeks and then 3 hours in the morning for the remaining 6 weeks.

Salary and Career expectations

The UK average salary for a Care Worker is £33,258. You could care for vulnerable adults within their own homes, day care centres, residential and nursing homes and other healthcare settings. With further training you could work in children’s residential homes.


You don’t need any previous experience or skills, this is a starting point to help you move into the rewarding world of health care, come and join us.

  • are 19-23 and do not already have a level 2 qualification
  • are 24+ and unemployed or earn below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319 from April 2023)
