What you will learn

This qualification has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment within the Childcare sector.
The Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 will prepare you with the skills to work with children between birth and 5 years, and give you the knowledge and understanding for children up to 7 years.

Ideal if

Ideal if you want a good, solid foundation for starting a career in Early Years. It will help you to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work in this sector. This course is aimed at people who have little or no experience of working in a nursery or childcare environment.

What to expect

This programme includes two additional short courses in Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent & Award in Mental Health Support.

Work Placement

You will need to be working or volunteering in a childcare placement, with children aged between birth to 5 years, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations, where you will be observed by a tutor. A work placement is required for 1 day per week.

What next

These qualifications will enable you to progress in a wide range of childcare roles including:

  • Nursery assistant
  • Pre-school assistant
  • Foundation unit – class assistant

Learners can also progress onto a funded route of a Level 3 Diploma For Early Years Workforce qualification or an early years Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Salary and Career expectations

The average early years practitioner salary in the United Kingdom is is £22,758 per year or £11.67 per hour. Entry level positions start at £21,000 per year while most experienced workers make up to £27,811 per year.

Attendance

Those over the age of 19, this course is delivered roll-on roll-off basis, where you can start at any time of the year.

Those who are 16 – 18 in age, this course will follow an academic year, starting in September and ending in July, each year.
