This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a residential childcare setting, including an understanding of child and young person development. It will enable the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including:
- well-being and resilience
- positive relationships and attachments,
- health and safety
- sexual exploitation
- communication
- positive behaviour and positive outcomes.
It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.
The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare is part of the new children’s homes regulations which came into force in April 2015. It replaces the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Social Care Pathway) as the required qualification for those working in children’s homes from April 2015.
All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to a placement either in work or volunteering on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
This programme carries 32 UCAS points
This qualification can help you to progress in a wide range of work roles including:
- Residential childcare workers
- Residential childcare managers
- Registered Managers of Children’s Homes, plus Deputy and Assistant Managers
- Residential Childcare Workers
- Managers, deputy and assistant managers in other adult or children and young people’s social care
You can progress on to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (QCF), or a Foundation Degree in a related discipline.
For anyone 19 years old and over the course is delivered on a one to one basis with an assigned tutor, using a blended method of delivery, which will include; monthly meetings, and remote learning. Your course can start at any time of the year.
