This course is for 16 – 18 students only. This course allows learners to develop the skills required to solve problems, communicate and work effectively with others.  It gives them an opportunity to learn how to manage in a business environment.

What you will learn

Ideal if
This qualification is ideal for learners who want to develop an understanding of the essential skills required to work successfully in a business environment, and gives them an understanding of business culture and responsibilities.

What to expect
Your tutor will support you throughout the course and will provide you with a detailed course programme. While completing this qualification learners may develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for, from the familiar ‘key skills such as team working, independent working, independent learning and problem solving, to more tricky measure skills such as: an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and dress, appropriate interpersonal skills, communicating with professional colleagues/peers and/or hierarchical seniors, supporting other aspiring employees, and understanding work practices and how different roles and departments function within an organisation.

Work placements
All learners are encouraged to complete a number of hours at a good quality work placement, to enhance their knowledge and skills in the business industry. The tutor will support you to find a placement as we have very good established links with lots of local businesses.

What next
This qualification aims to provide learners with a number of progression options. You can progress onto an apprenticeship, higher level qualifications at Level 3; this could be Media Studies, IT Level 3 or the Diploma in Business Studies Level 3.

Wider Curriculum activities
In recent years we all went to Plymouth City Council and had a tour around Ballard House. Jake Furze from Vospers of Plymouth, came into the centre and spoke to the group about progressing into a career in the Business sector, talking about the huge variety of different roles and the range of salaries we can expect as well as roles within Vospers including typical work duties. Vospers recruit apprentices and we were able to find out how and when to apply.

What it feels like to be a student
Class group sizes are between 10 to 20 students with a dedicated tutor. Support staff are on site such as pastoral care, finance and careers advice.

Salary and Career expectations
With a level 2 Business administration qualification you can move directly onto Apprenticeships at L3 with the help of Achievement Training Apprenticeship team, we have a dedicated Apprenticeship team who work with 100’s of local businesses, who will support you to find the perfect opportunity as soon as you are ready. On average a starting salary of £12,000. This sector has a huge choice of employment from a Recruitment Consultant, a Business Analyst, Project Manager, Travel Agent, Business Manager, Civil servant or working with the NHS.
