This introductory course will cover animal welfare, animal biology and animal behaviour. This qualification is for anyone who would like to work in animal care.

This level 2 course is ideal if you are new to animal care or have some knowledge and basic skills. You want to develop your skills, perhaps to start work in a pet shop, animal shelter or kennel or prepare for further training.

The programme will suit those who are just starting out as well as those with some experience. This qualification has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment within an Animal Care setting. The programme covers a wide range of skills, including:

  • Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
  • Undertake Practical Animal Feeding
  • Maintain Animal Accommodation
  • Understand the Basic Principles of Animal Biology
  • Introduction to the Principles
  • Practices of Animal Behaviour and Handling.
What Careers Can This Lead To?

A certificate or diploma in Animal Care or Animal Management is designed to help you find work with animals such as;

  • Kennel/cattery worker
  • Pet Store assistant
  • Welfare charity worker

Once you’ve completed the Level 2 qualification you can move on to Level 3.

The course is delivered every Friday

Start time 0900 / finishing at 1530

Students will be invited to attend a short interview at our city centre location, which will support your application,  ideally, you should aim to have English, maths and a science at grade 4 or above, however a passion and a love for working with animals is the priority requirement.

All applications will be reviewed on an individual basis. If you have experience or previous knowledge that will support your application please remember to include it.

Funding to cover course fees either 100% or 50% is available.

Funding criteria include – You must be a UK resident

Fully funded if this is your first L2 or L3 Qualification & you are Aged 19 – 23

You earn less than £17,374.50 or are claiming unemployed and in receipt of ESA
