About this qualification
This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support, including: planning; delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.
Aims and objectives
This qualification aims to:
- Focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning.
- Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
- Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.
The objectives of this qualification are to:
- Provide learners with knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment
- Provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector.
Who is it suitable for?
As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the duration of the taught programme of study, in a learning environment (school or college). CACHE recommends that the learner undertakes 100 hours of placement in a real work environment. The hours above are recommendations, not mandatory minimum placement hours. They are therefore not a part of the TQT calculation.
How is this qualification structured?
To achieve this qualification learners are required to successfully complete all 16 units.
How is it assessed?
Internally assessed and externally quality assured portfolio of evidence.
How long does it take to complete?
The Certificate usually takes 24 weeks to complete.
What Next
Upon completion you will be able to progress to further learning in the sector, the L4 Diploma for The Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges or Higher Education. Alternatively you may wish to progress onto employment within the sector as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or a specialist role including Safeguarding, Speech and Language, Parent Support Advisor or Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
You must meet the following eligibility criteria to be able to apply for this course:
• You must currently live in England
• You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
• You must be over the age of 19
• You must not be on an apprenticeship
