Maths & English Tutor/Assessor

Make a real difference in people’s lives by bringing your love of numbers and language to our Functional Skills & GCSE training team in Plymouth City Centre. We’re looking for confident Maths & English Tutors to support our vocational learners with these crucial life and employment skills.

 

Role 1: GCSE Maths Tutor

Role 2: Functional Skills English or Maths (combined abilities an advantage) 

 

Salary: £23,346 per annum 

Full-Time: 34 hours per week (part-time/job shares available for suitable candidates)

Planned start: January 2026

 

The Job Roles:

“Actively Transforming Lives” by delivering consistent, high quality training to support learners in achieving Maths and English functional skills and/or GCSE qualifications.

The Candidates:

  • Qualified to teach GCSE and/or Functional Skills in Maths and / or English;
  • Hold current teaching qualification to minimum of Level 3 (PTLLS, Education & Training or equivalent);
  • CAVA or equivalent assessing qualification an advantage but fully-accredited training available in-house;
  • Experienced in supporting and maintaining engagement of learners from Entry Level 2 to Level 2 abilities, with the resilience and positive, approachable manner that maintains learner engagement;
  • Confident in delivering consistent quality of training and assessment, teaching individuals, small groups and classroom cohorts;
  • Have good organisational skills with ability to prioritise own workload;
  • Able to develop and maintain motivational working relationships with learners;
  • Able to work both independently and within the wider team supporting functional skills as part of the vocational subject curriculum.

Due to the nature of the cohorts to be supported, this role is not suitable for remote work and will be carried out in-person, on site.
