Preparing for the world of work as a young person can be a challenging experience, especially for those who face more barriers in society due to struggles with their mental health, financial difficulties and lack of resources for finding work.

With the recent Youth Voice Census showing that the second largest barrier to young people in finding work was their anxiety, and third being mental health challenges, we want to ensure that you feel supported.

Whether you are having a difficult time at home, are affected by bullying, experiencing financial difficulties, worried about passing your coursework or exams, or anything else, we have people and resources on hand to help you. You can talk to your tutors or if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, have a chat with our safeguarding team or take a look at our learner support section of our website which lists some helpful resources where you can get help with whatever you need.

We want you to feel as prepared as you can be to get the career and life you want, even if you are unsure about how to get there or where you want to go in the first place! We are here to guide you through challenges and help open doors for you.

Worried about your skills and work experience?

We offer a range of traineeships which can help get your foot in the door. Find our current vacancies linked here – or reach out to Rita who is the traineeship coordinator and works in Employment & Progression. Also, speak to your tutor about work experience opportunities, as they have direct contact with employers in and around Plymouth.

Unsure about your next steps/career goals and how to get there?

Speak to a member of the team in Employment & Progression here at Achievement Training to discuss your options and opportunities about what to do next.

Worried about your end point assessment?

If you feel unprepared or worried about your end point assessment, it’s always best to talk to your tutor about your worries so they can help prepare you. Many apprentices worry about taking their exams and doing their coursework for their apprenticeship, but it’s not as scary as you think. Make sure to reach out for support when you need it, our tutors are experts!

Struggling to balance your job and studying?

Speak to one of our safeguarding officers who can give you advice about bursaries, monetary support or provide a listening ear. It can be very hard to manage the two; our team can provide you with the resources to best help your wellbeing and provide you with information on how to improve your situation.

Whatever barriers you may be facing right now, we don’t want them to hold you back; it’s always important to know you are supported and where to go when you need it. We are here to help.
