Adam’s Journey – From Post‑16 Learner to Inspiring Guest Speaker
Apprenticeships June 22, 2026
Adam joined ATL in 2013 as a quiet post‑16 learner, unsure of his direction but eager to grow. After completing his first qualification, his confidence began to flourish. Motivated by his progress, he went on to complete an IT User course, which opened the door to an apprenticeship within ATL’s MIS department.
It was here that Adam’s friendly, caring personality truly shone. After completing his Business Administration apprenticeship, he made the bold decision to move into a Learning Support Assistant role, supporting learners across a range of needs and leaving a lasting impact on every student he worked with.
When the time came to explore new opportunities, Adam returned to his customer service roots at Plymouth CityBus. Once again, he thrived. His dedication and people‑focused approach led him to train as a bus driver, a role he now loves.
Adam’s ATL journey hasn’t ended, though. He continues to return as a guest speaker, sharing his story with learners and reminding them that it’s okay not to have everything figured out at 16. His message is simple but powerful: every course has value, and transferable skills can take you anywhere.
