What are the entry requirements?
This qualification is for learners aged 19 or above who are interested in working in the early years sector. No previous experience of working in an early years setting is required.
How is this qualification structured?
There are two mandatory units, assessed through written tasks.
Assessment & Support
- Reflective logs required for Questions 10 & 11 (Unit 1) and Questions 5 & 16 (Unit 2).
- No formal placement required, this is a knowledge only qualification.
- Tutor support available throughout the course.
Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
You do not need to be employed in an early years setting to take this qualification. It is a knowledge only course, so practical experience is not essential.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
After completing this qualification, learners may progress to:
- Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Early Years Education and Care
- Level 2 or 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
- Level 3 Award in Child Development and Wellbeing
- Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care
- Further study in child psychology, education, or health and social care
This qualification also supports continued professional development and enhances your role as an Early Years Practitioner
Career opportunities
This qualification doesn’t lead to a specific job role but it provides continued professional development of new knowledge and skills and supports the Practitioner role in the workplace. Also, when undertaken in conjunction with our Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, it provides an overall package that allows for further progression in the early years sector.
Successful completion of this qualification will support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
You must meet the following eligibility criteria to be able to apply for this course:
- You must currently live in England.
- You must be over the age of 19, on 31 August in the calendar year your course starts.
- You must be a resident in the UK on the first day of learning.
- You must not be on an apprenticeship.
