What you will learn
This qualification has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment as a beauty therapist. The programme covers a wide range of skills including: waxing treatments, hand and nail treatments, foot treatments, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, make-up application, basic massage treatments and facial treatments.

The structure of this qualification provides learners with the flexibility to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway.
What to expect
You will learn in our training centre within a realistic working environment, by the end of your qualification you’ll be demonstrating your skills on paying clients. For each unit your assessor observes and asks questions as you perform tasks to assess your practical skills. Your understanding of theory will be tested by the completion of online tests. Professional Equipment: All products and equipment which are needed are provided in the working salons.
What next
On completion of this qualification, you can progress onto a Level 3 qualification in either Beauty, L2 Hairdressing, L2 Nail Technology, L3 Reflexology or L3 Makeup. You could move into employment as a beautician in a range of settings, including a commercial salon, independent/self-employed mobile or home based setting, or beauty retail concessions. If you

Wider Curriculum activities
You can expect to meet industry experts from Dermalogica. They will provide certified specialised training for you. Completion of this allows you access to the Dermalogica partnership training centre in Exeter. Work placements are part of the programme, all assessments take place in our salons. Students practise on each other to start with before moving onto real clients.
Work placements
Work placements are part of the programme, you will spend some time in a salon, seeing how the salon works, what each job role there is responsible for. In time they may allow you to
shampoo clients, wash off colours and gown up ready for the stylist. You will assist the senior stylists in the running of the salon. All your assessments take place in our salons in the centre. Students practice on each other to start with before moving onto real clients.
What it feels like to be a student
Class group sizes are between 10 to 20 students, with a dedicated tutor. Support staff are on site, such as pastoral care, finance and careers advice.

Students come from a variety of schools across Plymouth, they all help each other out and develop a really good bond over the year encouraging each other to achieve, most of students never want to leave and stay on to do the full range of beauty courses.
Salary and Career expectations
The opportunity to rent a work-station or treatment room is often an option along with working from home, both of these options allow the employees to set their own schedule. Nationally there has been a big increase in the number of people who work in the Beauty sector. Work opportunities are global and varied. For example you could be working in a commercial salon or as an independent, you could also work on cruise ships or in 4* and 5* hotel and spa facilities.
